Lancaster County Commissioners Disband the County Human Relations Commission
LANCASTER COUNTY —Lancaster County Commissioners voted 2 to 1 today in favor of the ordinance to abolish the Lancaster County Human Relations Commission.
Complaints must now be filed with the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission.
Opponents of the ordinance protested by wearing black gags. Supporters of disbanding the organization insist it will save the county about $500,000 a year, and that the county shouldn't have to pay for a service they can get at the state level.
"I'm going to support ordinance 97 because i think it's the best decision for Lancaster County," says Dennis Stuckey, Lancaster County Commissioner.
Whether the commissioners thinks it's needed will not stop these human relations activists from giving up.
" What we saw today was two of the Human Relations Commissioners turn their backs on the people of Lancaster and we are going to remember that, " said opponent Adan Jesus Marin
