A COVID-19 VIRTUAL TOWN HALL SERIES
THIS FOUR-PART CONVERSATION WILL BE A RESOURCE TO EMPOWER BLACK PEOPLE TO BUILD AN EFFECTIVE ACTION PLAN DURING THESE UNPRECEDENTED TIMES
BET announced a partnership with civil rights organization and stewards of human rights, the NAACP, on a four-part virtual town hall series “Unmasked: A COVID-19 Virtual Town Hall Series Powered by NAACP & BET” focused on how the pandemic is affecting African Americans and what steps the community can take to build an action plan for positive change. The first town hall kicks-off on Wednesday, April 8, at 8 PM ET/ 5 PM PT, and will focus on the health, emotional, economic toll, congressional response and how activists can apply pressure to ensure legislation is equitable.

The mission of the International Association of Official Human Rights Agencies (IAOHRA) is to provide opportunities and forums for the exchange of ideas and information among member agencies and other human rights advocates.
IAOHRA provides assistance in the development of programs for eliminating illegal discrimination in employment, housing, education, public accommodations, public services and commercial transactions, including banking and lending practices.
We develop educational programs on human rights and civil rights issues, and serves as a clearinghouse for information exchange between human rights agencies around the world.
We connect you to the best and brightest experts in every issue area critical to the human and civil rights effort through IAOHRA meetings and professional training opportunities, you’ll connect with civil rights professionals with your same interests and concerns.

Human Relations Commission
The Winston-Salem Human Relations Commission / Human Relations Department (WSHRC/HRD) educates, provides, facilitates, promotes, anticipates, studies, and recommends programs, projects, feedback, and actions for the elimination of discrimination in any and all fields of human relationships.
The purpose of the Commission is to study problems of discrimination in any or all fields of human relationship and encourage fair treatment and mutual understanding among all ethnic groups in the City. For more specific information, see Section 2-211 of the City Code.
The creation of a citywide environment that is a place where everyone is treated fairly.
The mission of the Winston-Salem Human Relations Commission ("WSHRC/HRD") is to educate, create, facilitate, promote, anticipate, study, and recommend programs, projects, feedback, and actions for the elimination of discrimination in any and all fields of human relationships.
Study problems of discrimination in any or all fields of human relationship and encourage fair treatment and mutual understanding among all ethnic groups in the city
Promote equality of opportunity for all citizens
Provide channels of communication among all ethnic groups
Encourage the employment of qualified people of all ethnic groups
Encourage youth to become better trained and qualified for employment opportunities
Anticipate and discover those practices most likely to create animosity and unrest among racial and ethnic groups and by consultation seek a solution as these problems arise or are anticipated
Hold such meetings as the commission may deem necessary or proper to assist in carrying out its functions
Make recommendations to the city council for action it deems necessary for the furtherance of harmony among racial and ethnic groups in the city
Perform duties consistent with general law as may be assigned it from time to time by the city council
Perform such other duties as necessary to enforce the powers assigned it in accordance with Article IV, the Fair Housing Ordinance of the City of Winston-Salem, of Chapter 38 of the City Code
Facilitate partnerships with fair housing and cultural community organizations to further the purpose of the commission.
The nature and the extent of its policies and programs are determined and set by the commission and shall be implemented within accepted policies and procedures of the city.
